Meeting the person’s needs
Change over time
Presbyopia can change over time. Often people find that as they age they need stronger reading glasses (more magnification) to continue to see close objects clearly.
As people age generally, they may experience other problems with their eyes.
Follow up is an opportunity to re-assess whether the reading glasses are meeting the person’s needs and to check if there are any other vision problems that need to be addressed.

If yes, think about the experience you, or the person you know, has had with presbyopia. Has it changed over time? What happened?
TAP vision screen
A follow up appointment is a good opportunity to re-assess the person’s vision using the TAP vision screen.
You can also ask the person if they are using their reading glasses, and if not, why not.
If the vision screen suggests reading glasses are still appropriate, check that the strength is still the best choice for the person. Use the same method as for assessment (see lesson 2).
Note – if the vision screen identifies any other vision problems, take the recommended actions.
