When to do follow up
A person who uses dressing aids long term requires follow up.
If a person has difficulty learning to use their dressing aid, follow up in 1 to 2 weeks after providing the product.
If a person does not have difficulty when learning, encourage them to contact the service if their needs change and/or if they have difficulty using the dressing aid/s.

Verna is 89 years old and lives with her husband Leif. Verna is frail and gets tired easily. She sits down to get dressed. She uses a reach and grab tool and long handle shoe horn to dress her lower body.
Recently Verna was unwell. She is better now but feels weak and cannot use her dressing aids.
Leif contacts the service to explain that Verna is having difficulty with dressing and with all her self care activities.
The health worker agrees to come and meet with Verna and Leif the next day.

Follow up will help you find out:
- If the dressing aid/s are still meeting the person’s needs
- If the dressing aid/s need any repairs or replacing.
If the person is not using their dressing aid/s, or has problems using it, find out why. You can then find a solution together.
Use the information that you collect to decide with the person if any actions are needed.
