Hearing assistive products included
Hearing assistive products may be used by people of all ages who have difficulty with hearing.
Some commonly used hearing assistive products are included:
- Prothèses auditives
- Personal remote microphone systems.

Prothèses auditives
Hearing aids are electronic devices worn on the ear. They assist a person by making some sounds louder so that the person can hear better.
Behind-the-ear hearing aids
These hearing aids are positioned behind a person’s ear.
Two types of behind-the-ear hearing aids are included:
1. Preprogrammed hearing aids
These are already programmed according to common types of hearing loss. They only require manual adjustment of programs or settings.
Preprogrammed hearing aids are only suitable for adults.

2. Programmable hearing aids

Meet Mere
Mere is a young woman. She developed hearing loss when she was in primary school. With permission from her mother, Mere was referred to a local hearing service and was fitted with a digital hearing aid.
The hearing aid was programmed by the health worker for Mere.
Only digital hearing aids are included in this module.
Personal remote microphone systems
Personal remote microphone systems help people who use hearing aids to hear better in noisy places like classrooms, places of work or worship.
Meet Mahmoud
Mahmoud is 19 years old and studying at college. He has moderately severe hearing loss in both ears and wears hearing aids.
Mahmoud has difficulty understanding lectures even with his hearing aids on.
His service provider explained that a remote microphone system could help.
During lectures his professor wears a microphone transmitter. This connects to a receiver on Mahmoud’s hearing aid.
Mahmoud is now able to clearly hear his professor during lectures.
