In this topic you will learn how to carry out a distance vision screen for children aged eight years and younger, using an HOTV chart.
Use the PEC Screen form to guide you.
Distance vision screen chart
В таблице имеются два ряда букв:
- одна строка большего размера с буквами VOHT (6/60)
- одна строка меньшего размера с буквами VHTVO (6/12).
Цифры рядом с каждой строкой характеризуют размер букв.
Инструкция
For children eight years and younger, select the HOTV chart on the PEC Screen form.
Объясните ребенку, как проходит проверка зрения с помощью таблицы HOTV:
- Give the child the HOTV pointing card
- Instruct the child to hold the pointing card flat on their lap, with the letters facing them
- Объясните ребенку, что ему нужно будет показать на карточке, лежащей у него на коленях, такую же букву, как та, которую он видит в таблице на стене.
Убедитесь в том, что ребенок понял вас:
- укажите на одну из букв в верхней строке (6/60) таблицы
- попросите ребенка найти и показать такую же букву на карточке.
Совет
При необходимости можно прибегнуть к помощи дополнительного сотрудника, который будет сидеть или стоять рядом с ребенком и держать карточку для указания.
Это особенно полезно, когда речь идет о детях младшего возраста или детях с нарушениями способности к обучению.
If a child is unable to understand or carry out the instructions, do not continue with the vision screen. Select unable to complete distance vision screen skip to eye health screen then refer to an eye health professional.

If the child wears spectacles for distance vision, or both distance and near vision, check if they are wearing them for the distance vision screen.
If the child needs to wear their spectacles for the distance vision screen:
- убедитесь в чистоте очков
- Record that spectacles are being worn on the PEC Screen form.
If you are using an occluder, clean it before using it.
Правый глаз
Инструкция
Начните с правого глаза ребенка.
- Попросите ребенка закрыть левый глаз окклюдером (или ладонью левой руки), оставив правый глаз открытым
- Следите за тем, чтобы ребенок не прижимал окклюдер (или руку) к глазу
- Проверьте, закрывает ли ребенок глаз надлежащим образом. Если ребенку трудно закрыть глаз, ему может помочь помощник.
Правый глаз: верхняя строка
Ручкой или пальцем укажите поочередно на каждую букву в верхней строке (6/60) и попросите ребенка показать соответствующую букву на карточке для указания HOTV.
- If child matches 2 or more letters correctly on the top line record Yes continue to the bottom line
- If child matches fewer than 2 letters record No continue to the left eye.
Совет
- Передвигайте руку равномерно, указывая на каждую букву.
- Старайтесь не закрывать буквы рукой.
Правый глаз: нижняя строка
Укажите поочередно на каждую букву в нижней строке (6/12) и попросите ребенка найти соответствующую букву на карточке для указания HOTV.
- If child matches 3 or more letters correctly on the bottom line record Yes
- If child matches fewer than 3 letters record No.
Левый глаз
Инструкция
Повторите проверку зрения вдаль для левого глаза ребенка.
Попросите ребенка закрыть правый глаз окклюдером (или ладонью правой руки), оставив левый глаз открытым.
Левый глаз: верхняя строка
- If child matches 2 or more letters correctly on the top line (6/60) record Yes continue to the bottom line
- If child matches fewer than 2 letters record No continue to eye health screen.
Левый глаз: нижняя строка
- If child matches 3 or more letters correctly on the bottom line (6/12) record Yes
- If child matches fewer than 3 letters record No.
Record result
- If the child achieves Yes to top and bottom lines, both eyes skip to the eye health screen (because they are under 40 years old)
- If Нет for either eye:
- Top line skip to the eye health screen and refer to eye health professional urgently
- Bottom line skip to the eye health screen and refer to eye health professional.
