When using two crutches/sticks, why do you think they should be held on the weaker side?
So that the person can push up on the chair with the stronger side.
Sitting down with crutches or a walking stick
- Stand in front of the chair/bed, with back of legs touching it.
- Hold the walking aid/s in one hand.
If using two crutches or walking sticks, hold them on the weaker side. - Reach back with the free hand to hold onto the chair/bed and slowly sit down.

Standing up with a walking frame or rollator
- Put the walking frame or rollator just in front of you.
If using a rollator, put the brakes on. - Move to the edge of the chair/bed, place feet under knees and lean forward.
- Push through the chair/bed to stand up.
Do not pull on the walking aid to stand up as it may tip over. Push on the chair.
Sitting down with a walking frame or rollator
- Stand in front of chair/bed, with back of legs touching it.
If using a rollator, put the brakes on. - Reach back with hands to hold onto the chair/bed.
- Slowly sit down.
