Prepare wheelchairs in emergencies

Always check wheelchair is safe to use and all parts are working before fitting it to a person.

Check:

  • That the weight of the person is not greater than the weight rating of the wheelchair
  • The correct type of cushion is on the wheelchair
  • The cushion size matches the seat size
  • That leg support is attached to the correct side of the wheelchair, if needed.
