Looking after a walking aid
What to do if rubber tips are worn out
If rubber tips are worn, the person is at greater risk of falling. The rubber tips should be replaced.
- Pull the rubber tip off by gently twisting it around the shaft of the walking aid.
- Put on a new tip by pushing and twisting it around the shaft.
Always check the rubber tip is fitted well by pushing the tip on the ground at a 45 degree angle. The rubber tip will not crease if it is in place.
Watch the video to see how to replace rubber tips.
Activity
Now that you have seen how to do it, practice replacing rubber tips on some crutches. Remember to check that the tip is fully in place.
