A person who uses a walking aid should also wear suitable shoes.

Suitable shoes are particularly important for a person with diabetes. Well-fitting, suitable shoes help to protect the feet from injury and wound development. Suitable shoes can also can help to reduce the risk of falling.

When you provide a walking aid, always encourage the person to wear suitable shoes and explain why.
