Fitting a sheet magnifier with an adjustable stand

Lesson: 3 of 6
Topic: 1 of 2
0% Complete

Many of the magnifiers and telescopes included in TAP do not require specialised fitting.

This is because they are not adjustable. However, sheet magnifiers with adjustable stands and around the neck magnifiers can be adjusted.

Look at how to adjust and fit them now.

How to fit a sheet magnifier

Sheet magnifiers with adjustable stands can be adjusted to different heights.

To adjust the stand for best magnification, ask the person to:

  1. Place magnifier over the object (for example, over a book).
  2. Slowly lift the magnifier away from the object towards their eyes and ask them to notice how the object looks bigger.
  3. Tell the person to keep going until the point is reached where the image is clearest for them, then fix the stand at this height.

The best height will be different for each person depending on their vision and the power of the magnifier.

Activity

If sheet magnifiers with adjustable stands are available, practise fitting one with a friend or colleague.

Remember that the best height will be different for different people.

Make sure you have good lighting!
