Question

Meet Rashid

Rashid is 47 years old and a truck driver. He was worried that he was not seeing clearly. He had a primary eye care screen at his local health clinic.

Guide one: Vision problems. Step 1 check distance vision result, yes to all, both eyes (pass) selected. Step 2 is the person 40 years or older? 40 years or older, continue to next step selected. Step 3 check near vision result. Did not pass, provide near vision spectacles, if spectacles not available refer to eye health professional selected.

Rashid:

  • Passed the distance vision screen
  • Did not pass the near vision screen.

What action should the health worker take?

Select one.

a is correct!

The health worker should provide near vision spectacles or, if they are not available, refer Rashid to a service that can provide him with spectacles. This is because:

  • Rashid passed the distance vision screen (step 1)
  • Is over 40 years (step 2)
  • Did not pass the near vision screen (step 3).

Tip

For people with complex vision or eye health problems you may need to use more than one guide. For example, you may need to use Guide one: Vision problems, and Guide two: Red eye problems for a person who has signs of a red eye problem and who did not pass the near vision screen.
