This part of the assessment form allows you to find out if the person wears spectacles (prescription or near vision spectacles), and whether extra light to see clearly is particularly important.

Spectacles

Instruction

Ask the person: Do you wear spectacles?

If the person uses near vision or prescription spectacles, they should wear these when using a magnifier or telescope.

Light source

Instruction

Ask the person: What light options are available in your home or work (or where the activity will be carried out)?

Most people using low vision assistive products will benefit from having extra light for their activities.

Ask the person what light options are available in their home or work environment.

Light can be improved by:

  • Using natural light.
  • Using a lamp.

If using natural light or a lamp is likely to be difficult, consider if it is possible to select a product with a built-in light. Remember that these devices usually run off batteries, which will require replacement.
