Hearing aids may be used by people of all ages who have hearing loss.
A person might need hearing aids if they:
- Cannot hear as well as a person with normal hearing
- Have difficulty hearing sound and understanding speech
- Have difficulty with conversations in quiet and/or noisy environments.

Meet Malicka
Malicka is 70 years old. She is a grandmother who lives with her family. Malicka has hearing loss and finds it difficult to understand what her family are saying.
Malicka had a hearing test and was assessed for preprogrammed hearing aids. Malicka is very happy. Now she can hear what her family are saying and joins family gatherings.
Meet John
John retired after working in a noisy factory for 34 years. At home he often turned up the television volume. He often did not hear his wife Mary when she asked him a question.
John had a hearing test and was assessed for preprogrammed hearing aids.
Now he watches the television at normal volume and can hear his wife, Mary.
Children
Meet Basir
Basir is six years old and goes to school with his sister, Siti. Basir was identified with hearing loss after a school screening programme.
After a hearing test, with permission from his parents, Basir was fitted with programmable hearing aids.
Now he is more talkative at home and participating in class.
